Current Events

Thursday-Immigration Reform
Shouts of joy, but bittersweet  for some
Five million get to stay
While the rest has got to go
"You can come out of the shadows and get right with the law."
It is in the President's power, so Congress pass a bill.

Monday- Ferguson
No one is shouting for joy, no more
No indictment for the killing of Michael Brown
A city burns in the night
Shouts for justice

But don't you worry Al Sharpton to the rescue
Speaking his mind
Right next to the family's attorney
He is just as fame hungry as George Zimmerman
The parents are "profoundly disappointed."
And I wonder how many people listened to the parents' request
For that four an a half minutes of silence
Before taking on social media
And speaking their minds
Hash tagging black lives matter over and over
We know this already
It takes more than a hash tag
For the views of white America to change

Miscellaneous
Violence is all around
From the kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls
Because in my mind a group dares to fear an educated woman
To a group that puts fear in people beheading the innocent
To prove they are the most powerful, stronger and the elite
To here at home where women are getting gang raped
At a university and a president that dares to hide
The stats because no one wants to send their child
To a rape school

Hey, Preacher

Preach, preach
Get out of that formal wear
And into some skinny jeans and a tee
Drop them dress shoes or high heels
And slide your feet into some classic sneaks

Go on preaching a message
Lasting more than twenty minutes
And hour if need be
Because worshipping the Lord
Shouldn't have the timestamp of noon

Stop following a bulletin
And be spontaneous
Sing a little
Pray a little more

If we should ever get tired
Of praising the one that made us
We should check our faith at the door

I Baptize You

A single moment that begins with
The words I baptize you
It is in this moment I have felt the safest
In my entire life
It feels like with every dunk
Love is being poured into this body of mine
Filling in all of the empty space
Finally getting a sense of knowing
What it means to be loved unconditionally
And ending with a prayer
I baptize you in the name
Of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit
A moment that is on constant repeat
Jesus, we are climbing a mountain
That has become too steep
My heart is bruised
And and aches with every beat
These eyes are tired
But know all too well to look up
You walk beside me
In front of me
In darkness and light
Jesus, I cannot wait
Until we take that final step
And see the view at the mountain top
So until that day and many days after
I will close my eyes and get lost in that moment
With each dunk where love is being poured in
And me saying yes, Jesus, I choose you
Today, tomorrow, and always
